What Are These Orders?
The first four orders are peerages that are the highest level of awards given within the SCA. Peerages are awarded by the Crown on the recommendation of existing peers within that order.
The fifth is the order of those who have served as Crown in the kingdom.
The later order is the order of the Dragon Steel; a polling order that carries a Grant of Arms. It was closed when the Order of Defense was created.
Order of Chivalry |
Given to those who excel in the field of armoured combat, and who show peer-like qualities in all other fields. Some choose to be Knights of the SCA and style themselves Sir, others choose to be Masters of Arms, and style themselves Master or Mistress. |
Order of the Laurel |
Given to those who excel in the field of the arts and sciences, and who show peer-like qualities in all other fields. They style themselves Master or Mistress. |
Order of the Pelican |
Given to those who excel in the field of service to the society, and who show peer-like qualities in all other fields. They style themselves Master or Mistress. |
Order of Defence |
Companionship in the Order of Defense is granted to those who have excelled in rapier or cut-and-thrust combat, and who show peer-like qualities in all other fields. Members of this order are referred to Masters and Mistresses of Defense |
Royal Peers |
These are those who have served the Kingdom as King or Queen. |
Order of the Dragon Steel | Given to those members of the period fencing community who exemplify courtesy, chivalry, dedicated patronage to the arts and sciences and show continual service to local branches and the Kingdom of Drachenwald. The members of this order shall have displayed superior abilities in period fencing. |
