Sample scroll texts

Drachenwald does not have fixed scroll texts for any of its awards.  Any wording may be used for any award, so long as the scroll contains the following:

  • The name of the recipient
  • The name of the granting nobles
  • The recognition being bestowed
  • The date, using either a.s. or c.e. dating

Of course, adaptations of period texts are always preferable when possible! The following scroll texts have been provided by the scribes of the kingdom as examples; they can be copied and modified as desired.  The Signet is always looking for new texts to include here, especially in non-English languages of Drachenwald, so if you have something to offer, please send it to .  The names and emails of the contributors are provided so that if you have any question about grammar, you can contact them.

Award of Arms

English

For recipient without registered arms:

Foremost amongst the qualities of a lady be that she be good and discreete, flee affectation or curiositie, have a good grace in al her doings, be of good condicions and wel brought up, not to be haughtie, envious, yltunged, lyght, contentious, nor untowardlye, have the vertues of the minde, as wisdome, justice, noblenesse of courage, temperance, contingency, sobermoode, etc. All these and more are shewn by [recipient], wherefore we make her a lady by awarding her arms, on [month] [day], a.s. [year].

Witness the will of [king] and [queen] by the grace of God king and queen of Drachenwald. It is the duty and the honour of the crown to reward merit as it is due and so in recognition of the loyalty and service rendered until us by our subject [recipient] we award unto [him/her] all rights to such arms as [he/she] shall register with the College of Arms so that in all places she may be numbered and counted among the nobles of this realm. Done the [number] day of [month], a.s. [year] in [group].

Translation: Pay heed to the words of [king] and [queen], King and Queen of Drachenwald. Know that by these letters we recognize the worth and dignity of our subject [recipient]. Popular Company of Sojourners

For [his/her] many acts of selfless service by which [he/she] has greatly enriched our kingdom we invite [recipient] into the Popular Company of Sojourners. Done this [number] day of [month] a.s. Order of the Dragon's Bowle

English

[king] by right of arms King of Drachenwald and [queen] our queen, to the barons, lords, and freemen of our domains, Greeting. Be it known that we have recognized the notable attention to authenticity of our faithful and well-beloved subject, [recipient], and grant to [him/her] entrance into our Order of the Dragon's Bowle, allowing [him/her] to bear the badge of the order, a dragon passant coward sable charged with a bowl per pale Or and gules. [Group], [month] [day], a.s. [year].

Order of the Dragon's Jewel

As a jewel in our crown are the children of our realm. One such gem is [recipient], and so we are minded to award unto her a dragones jewel on the [number] day of [month], a.s. [year], in [group].

Orden des Lindquistringes

English

Unto all good and true citizens of Drachenwald these present letters seeing or hearing, greetings from [king] and[queen], king and queen right well beloved. In recognition of the works that our dear subject [recipient] has rendered to us, our lands, and our lords, we hereby offer to [him/her] admission in our Orden des Lindquistringes, which confers the right to display the insignia of the order, a ring formed of a wingless dragon in annulo Or, maintaining with all four legs and mouth a gem gules. Dated at [group], [number] of the month of [month], a.s. [year].

All shall know who read or hear these words of the deeds of [recipient], loyal subject of the crown of Drachenwald. Drachenwald is made strong by those who live within its borders, those who fight to protect its lands, who grace it with their skills in the arts and sciences, and who serve the crown, the kingdom, and its populace with their works and deeds. It is the pleasure of the crown to recognize all those who have greatly enriched the kingdom in these ways, and so it is that we, [king] and [queen], as the days of our reign come to an end, wish to single out the most lordly doings of our subject [recipient] by making him a member of our Orden des Lindquistringes, which order was created to recognize those whose exemplary service puts them above the ordinary. Order of Panache

English

To all those who shall see or hear these present letters [king] and [queen] King and Queen of Drachenwald greeting and recommendation. Equity requires and reason ordains that men virtuous and of good skill and knowledge be rewarded for their merits by renown and recognition. And therefore We who not only by common renown but also by the report and testimony of other noble men worthy of credence are truly advertised and informed that [recipient] has long persued feats of [area of A&S speciality] and as well in this as in other of [his/her] affairs has borne [himself/herself] valiantly and conducted himself honourably so that [he/she] deserved well and is well worth that henceforth [he/she] may be in all places honourably admitted renowned counted number and received among the number and in the company of Our Order of the Panache. And for the remembrance of this we assign to the said [recipient] the right to bear the blazon in the manner which follows. That is to say a torteau charged with a bezant pierced sable issuant from the chief three feathers gules, Or, and sable. In witness whereof We King and Queen of Drachenwald above named have signed our hands and sealed with our seal and given the [number] day of [month] in the year of the society [year].

Companions of the Order of Panache have marked themselves as worthy of renown by their skill and knowledge of the gentle arts, and it is the privilege of the crown to augment the number of this company with deserving gentles. One such is [recipient], and thus it is the will of [king] and [queen], king and queen of Drachenwald, to make the said [recipient] a member of the said Order, and give [him/her] the right to bear the badge of the order depicted in the margin below. Whereas by the advice and assent of our peers for certain arduous and urgent and serious affairs concerning Us and the defence of our kingdom we are minded to surround ourselves with such barons as shall give us council in these affairs we strictly enjoining command you upon the allegiance by which you are bound to Us that you (waiving all excuses) place personally yourself before us so that we may make you a [baron/baroness] of our court in recognition of your service to Knights Crossing and so that with the said prelates, great men and peers you treat and give your counsel upon the affairs aforesaid. And this as you regard Us and Our honour and the safety and defence of the realm in nowise do you omit yourself from our counsel, and in commemoration of this newly acquired honor we hereby grant unto you the sole and unique right to bear the arms blazoned as follows, that is to say: [blazon], depicted more plainly above. Queen's Order of Couresty

Right worthy and worshepefull ladye, I recomaunde me to yow and thank yow for þe good, trew, and diligent labour ye have hadde for the mattier of the quenes of Drachenwald. For yowr conseil and thee manhede yow have shewn to us and otheres, we wish and firmly command þat ye be everilkquar accompted, nombred, accepted, and receyued into our Order of Corteisie. My wille is that ye shew þe chief signes of this honour, ane whight edelweiss wyth a centre of redde.

Sigillum reginae

To our right trusty and heartily well-beloved [recipient], we greet you well, thanking you as heartily as we can for ourself and especially for that ye do so much for our house and court, which I trust verily ye do rather for the great love that ye deem I have thereto. And forasmuch as we purpose to thank you for your rightful favour showed to us in all matters that toucheth us, we pray that you proudly and humbly bear our sigil, and that in so doing you be long preserved in honour and prosperity. Sigillum coronae

By the King and Queen forasmuch as we, of our special grace, in consideration of the trew and faithful service whiche our welbeloved servant [recipient] hath done unto us, in certain and diverse matters , have given and granted unto [him/her] the right to bear our sigils as a token of our gratitude. Wherefore we wol and charge [him/her] that [he/she] do bear hereafter our sigils in due form, and these our letters shall be [his/her] warrant. And they will promise to have good and true love to the Sovereigns and to defend and maintain the laws of the kingdom and the statutes of the Society. And they will promise to serve the Sovereigns to their power. And they will promise to enrich the kingdom by honorable deeds and good works and wise counsels.
